Modernising Business Registry (MBR) - Implementation & Establishment of the Registry Platform

Date and time TBA

(MBR) program and director identification numbers

The MBR program is a transformational program of work across multiple agencies to build a new registry service.  The program will bring together 31 Australian Securities and Investments Commission registers and the Australian Business Register on a modern, whole-of-government business register platform with high levels of reliability, accessibility and security. The MBR program will also deliver the director identification number initiative, which will help address illegal phoenix activity.

Legislation to enable the implementation of the MBR program received Royal Assent in mid-2020. This milestone, along with the announcement of funding in the 2020-21 Budget to fully implement the program, means that work is now well underway for the first program deliverables – transition of ASIC registry functions to the ATO and the introduction of director identification numbers.

Michelle Crosby will provide an update on the implementation of the MBR program and the milestones planned for 2021.
